Yellowtail bite slowed down this week.
Yellowtail bite slowed down due to high winds across the Channel Islands but we did manage to get in some days on the water.
Our week of fishing was cut in half with high winds blanketing the entire Channel Islands area, but we did manage to get a few days of fishing in. Early in the week, we had a couple 2-day private charters head out in search of outer island Yellowtail, Rockfish and of course Lingcod. They were successful in that venture and also managed to add a couple big Halibut to the list.
Mid week was when the wind came but luckily for us, the wind backed off enough to spare the weekend. Over the weekend we fished hard for anything willing to bite. After a big wind the water “rolls over” and gets cold and sometimes dirty. We saw a big dip in the temperature but we didn’t get the “dirty water”. A couple of the boats had success catching Yellowtail but overall the fleet focused on bottom fishing for Rockfish and Ocean Whitefish. Fortunately for us, they were biting and our anglers were able to go home with nice bags of fish.
This upcoming week should be more fruitful. We are expecting unusually high air temperatures the first part of the week, which should re-ignite the game fish bite!

Matt Allport from Oxnard caught a 32lb Yellowtail on a 2 day trip aboard the Seabiscuit.
Randy Corbin from Ventura caught a 28lb Yellowtail on a 3/4 day trip aboard the Erna-B.
Richard Wu from Rosemed caught a 30lb Yellowtail on a full day trip aboard the Aloha Spirit.
