The Sea Jay was on a fishing trip out of Channel Islands Sportfishing on May 23, 2012. On the way back to the harbor, they witnessed this amazing event! A pod of Orcas separating a baby gray whale from it’s mother to kill and feed on. This pod of Orcas are believed to be residents that live year round in the Channel Islands waters, moving from Santa Barbara Island, Santa Cruz Island, Anacapa Island and Santa Rosa Island. They have been seen playing, feeding, and teaching their young to hunt by many boats over the past few years.
