Sportfishing Report:
This weeks fishing action picked up dramatically as predicted. A big reason for this would be two major factors. Great weather all week and live squid has become plentiful. On Friday our bait boat “Traveler” loaded up our tanks with squid and even had enough to sell to private boaters all weekend.
As for fishing, last week we finished strong catching Yellowtail, White Seabass and even few Halibut. No big numbers but enough to raise an eyebrow. As predicted, this week it only got better. Every day this week our anglers legitimately had a chance to catch a prized Channel Islands game fish.
Up until now, all the game fish have been caught on our full day trips leaving in the early morning. But over the weekend we got reports back from our outer island boats catching Yellowtail and a couple of White Seabass. One boat alone had over 150 Yellowtail at an undisclosed location outside the reach of the local fleet.
Filling in the gaps between bites, we also had outstanding bottom fishing this week. The Lingcod and bigger Reds are still best on the overnight outer island boats but locally it has picked up too. Saturday, we had a half day trip on the Speed Twin return with close to limits of Rockfish, one hundred plus whitefish and several Sculpin and even Lingcod.
By far one of the best half day counts of this young season. This upcoming week will most likely get even better, so if you’re coming out with us simply be ready for anything. We will do our best to keep you informed on what to bring but feel free to call our office and ask. We want you to be as prepared as possible and most of all, catch fish!
