Channel Islands Yellowtail
All kinds of fish to be caught now, but still the Yellowtail are stealing the show. Local island boats fishing both Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands are catching mixed grade Yellowtail, mostly in the 10-15lb class. Toward the end of the week we started to see an increase in size with the larger fish pushing 25lbs.
Still a few White Seabass being caught
There are still some White Seabass being caught incidentally while targeting Yellowtail or Calico Bass, like what happened on one of our full day trips mid-week. The week was rock solid with mixed catches like this until the weekend hit. Over the weekend the Yellowtail bite spiked, not only in numbers but with grade of fish. For instance, we had a full day charter report back with 31 Yellowtail for only 13 anglers, but the amount of fish lost was astonishing. Needless to say they could have limited on Yellowtail.
Fishing remains pretty steady
All in all, fishing remains pretty steady and red hot around here. Boats are staying busy 7 days a week and the summer thus far, shows no signs of slowing down. Let’s go fishing!
Whoppers for the week
Nolan Rugh (hometown unknown) caught a 41.6lb Halibut on a 1/2 day trip aboard the Speed Twin.
Ed Zieska from West Hills caught a 15lb White Seabass on a 3/4 day trip aboard the Erna B.
Don Fromberg from Ventura caught a 36lb White Seabass on a full day trip aboard the Island Tak.
